I was reading about ATP on page 30 and see it has something to do with ribose. I remember reading something in a magazine about supplementing with ribose. Since it has something to do with ATP would it be worthwhile?hmm

Cheryl, good morning and welcome to the DEC Forums.  We are happy to have you  here.  With regard to your question, consider the following as it pertains to ribose. As you are learning ATP is the energy source for all cells in the body. ATP or adenosine triphosphate contains one adenosine molecule and three phosphate molecules. The adenosine part of ATP is made up of one molecule of adenine and a five carbon sugar named ribose. Unlike glucose which is a 6 carbon sugar, d-ribose is a 5 carbon sugar and used as a structural element in RNA, ATP, ADP, AMP and IMP. Ribose alone will digest faster then if mixed with protein, which may be the reason for the supplement recommendation. However, there has been no peer reviewed clinical data to support any benefits from supplementing with ribose.    If you would like to do some research you can visit www.consumerlab.com and or www.ajcn.org for your own personal edification and studies.

We hope this helps.  Take care and have a great Thursday afternoon.
