I was reading about creatine as an ergogenic aid in the book and went to GNC and the clerk said I should load creatine.  Is this true?

Tristan, good evening I hope you are well and having a great night.  With regard to your question, consider the following as it pertains to loading creatine.  Studies have shown that those who load with 20 grams for 7 days and maintain with 5 grams for the remaining 23 days of a thirty day period for a total intake of 255 grams will have approximately the same levels of creatine in their muscles if they were to use 3 grams per day for the same 30 day period for an overall intake of 90 grams. Therefore we recommend that you simpy take in 3 grams per day and forgo the loading phase. You will save money with the same results.  In addition it is worth knowing, that the average person has a total creatine of about 125 mmol/kg dry mass to 90 mmol/kg dry mass and has a ceiling of about 150 mmol/kg dry mass to 160 mmol/kg dry mass. Therefore, once you reach that ceiling, there is no need to use extra creatine needlessly.

We hope this helps.  Take care and have a great Wednedsay night.
