Hi.  Can someone please let me know what the opposing exercise for the overhead press is when still in the frontal plane?  Also, what would be the opposing exercise if the overhead press was performed in the sagittal plane?

Hello,

During the overhead press in the frontal plane the medial deltoids and triceps are the prime movers.  The muscles that oppose them are the latissimus dorsi, the teres major, and the biceps.

If the overhead press were to be performed in the sagittal plane for shoulder modification, a seated low row would be a good movement that would utilize the latissimus dorsi, the teres major, and the biceps.
